Skin cancer incidence is on the rise.

There are many different types of skin cancer - common types include

Basal cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma

Melanoma

The London Skin Cancer Centre offers the full range of the latest treatments for all types of skin cancer. On visiting us you will be seen by a Dermatologist and if necessary will be offered an immediate skin biopsy to obtain a histological diagnosis for your lesion. If further surgery is required, this will be carried out by our Plastic Surgeon to ensure you receive the best possible cosmetic outcome.

Treatment options

The majority of skin cancers are treated by surgery to remove the tumour which also has the benefit of providing a sample to send for histological analysis to confirm the diagnosis and guide further treatment if required.

However in certain situations there are alternative treatment options available - e.g. if the cancer is very superficial or is a pre-malignant type. Each skin cancer is as unique as every patient so it is important you discuss all possible treatment options with your specialist Dermatologist. Treating advanced skin cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach involving a team of specialists : dermatology, oncology, pathology, radiology, plastic surgery.

Surgery

Direct removal of cancerous tissue, reducing the change of recurrence

Topical therapy
Early non invasive skin cancers may respond to topical creams

Cryotherapy

Liquid nitrogen is applied which freezes tissue and can destroy cancerous cells without the need for surgery

Photodynamic therapy

A photosensitising paste is applied to the skin which is then exposed to light of a particular wavelength

Radiotherapy

Some tumours are very deep and cannot be treated with surgery or other methods
